What Is a Mini Gastric Sleeve?
Traditional sleeve gastrectomy is a bariatric surgery in which up to 85% of a patient’s stomach is removed. This transforms the stomach into a sleeve shape, decreases the amount of ghrelin (the hunger hormone), and helps patients feel satisfied with smaller portions of food.
Mini gastric sleeve surgery aims to achieve the same goals as traditional sleeve gastrectomy, but removes less of the stomach, reducing its size to 40-50% of its original capacity. It is generally a suitable option for active patients with a BMI of less than 35.
